What only applies in Ibiza
- The crossing runs through the Ses Salines Natural Park, which covers the south of Ibiza and the north of Formentera.
- Anchoring on Posidonia is banned in the Balearics under Decree 25/2018. Catamarans at S'Espalmador and Ses Illetes anchor on sand or use the regional buoy fields.
- The half-day cruise circles Es Vedrà, a nature reserve since 2002 together with Es Vedranell and the western islets. Boats pass close, but the islet itself is not a landing stop.
Who this is not for
Not for travellers prone to seasickness on open crossings, since the channel to Formentera can be choppy with wind. Not ideal for anyone who wants a party boat either.
What to bring
- Motion sickness tablets if you need them
- Towel and swimwear
- Reef-safe sun cream
- A light layer for the return crossing
- Cash for lunch ashore if not included
Best time
June and September, when the water is above 22°C. Sunset departures in June end around 21:20.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a catamaran trip in Ibiza?
Shared trips in this list start at €45 for the half-day Es Vedrà cruise and €100 for a full day to Formentera. A private catamaran starts at €1,330 per boat.
Does the catamaran in Ibiza go to Formentera?
Three of the four do. They usually stop at S'Espalmador and Ses Illetes, both inside the Ses Salines Natural Park.
Is a catamaran in Ibiza good for families?
Yes. The sailing trip lists stroller access and all fitness levels. Check the minimum age with the operator.
Where do catamarans in Ibiza anchor?
On sand or on authorised buoys. Anchoring on Posidonia is banned, and the regional port authority runs buoy fields at S'Espalmador and Ses Salines.
Catamaran or speedboat in Ibiza, which is better?
A catamaran is steadier and has more deck space. A speedboat reaches Formentera faster. For a full day with swimming stops, the catamaran is easier on most people.
Can a catamaran in Ibiza land on Es Vedrà?
Not on this cruise. It circles the islet from the water, and Es Vedrà is a protected nature reserve.
