The mirador d'Es Vedra everyone photographed, by the Torre des Savinar, is closed. The rock is still easy to see: from the viewing area above Cala d'Hort beach, from the beach itself, or from a boat right under it.
For years everyone drove to the same clifftop for the same photo of Es Vedra. That spot is now closed. Here is what changed and where to go instead.
The classic mirador by the Torre des Savinar is closed
The best-known viewpoint sits on the Cap Blanc and Es Savinar plots around the Torre des Savinar watchtower, private land inside a protected area. In February 2025 the owners blocked the parking areas with large rocks and banned access on foot to the mirador and the tower, as reported by the Ibiza newspaper Nou Diari. Arriving by taxi does not help either, because the walk in is closed too. Please respect the barriers.
The open alternative: the viewpoint above Cala d'Hort
Just above Cala d'Hort beach there is a viewing platform facing Es Vedra that you can reach without a hike. It is on the road that runs down to the cove. The local guide Casa Zita lists it as the official alternative to the closed mirador. The angle is lower and wider than the old clifftop, and the rock still fills the horizon.
Parking and getting there
Drive towards Cala d'Hort and follow the road down to the beach. Parking in the area has changed more than once. The only licensed car park was closed by its owners in May 2026, as Nou Diari reported, and in July 2026 Periódico de Ibiza said the owners had reopened it while the new car parks announced by Sant Josep council were still being processed. Check the local press before you set out.
The beach itself
The sand and pebble beach and the restaurants at Cala d'Hort give a lower, closer view of the rock with food on hand. See our Cala d'Hort viewpoint guide for that option.
Tips for the Cala d'Hort viewpoint
Sunset is the busiest moment, so come early. Bring water, stay back from any unfenced edge and respect every fence or sign you find. For other routes, read our how to get to Es Vedra guide.
From the sea there is no closure
The closure only affects the private land above the cliffs. Boats still sail right past Es Vedra, and a sunset cruise puts you under the rock as the sky turns. Pair it with our Es Vedra sunset guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is the mirador d'Es Vedra at Torre des Savinar open?
No. Since February 2025 the landowners have blocked access on foot and by car to the Torre des Savinar mirador of Es Vedra, which sits on private, environmentally protected land.
Where can you see Es Vedra from land now?
From the viewing area just above Cala d'Hort beach, on the road down to the cove, and from the beach itself. Parking there changed during 2026, so check the local press first.
What is the closest way to see Es Vedra?
From the water. The closure only affects the private land above the cliffs, and boat tours whose route includes Es Vedra sail right past it. Check the itinerary, as not every San Antonio trip goes that far.
When is the best time to visit the Es Vedra viewpoint above Cala d'Hort?
Late afternoon into sunset, when Es Vedra is backlit. It is also the busiest time of day, so arrive early.
